NPS Passport Stamps

At two of the visitor centers I stopped at (Holbrook & Grants) they had something called "passport stamps". I didn't know what they were, so I googled it and found out that it's a phenomenon across the USA. Apparently, 390 visitor centers offer the stamps, and you can buy a little book and get it stamped when you visit each one. I'm not going to buy their little book, but I'm certainly going to start taking my travel scrapbook into the centers with me and get them stamped. Too bad I missed out on the two I already saw, not realizing what they were.

I was delighted to read about a comparison to Expo 86! Here is an excerpt from an article by Nancy Bradley, vice president of the NPS:

"It began in 1986, just after visiting a World Expo in Canada. When you attend a world expo, the first thing they do is give you a passport type book, so you can visit "around the world" each of the nation's pavilions and to remember the trip, each has a passport stamp exotically carved to represent their individual countries."

I remember that expo in Vancouver, which I attended as a child (living in Prince George, it was a world expo within reach! So we jumped at the opportunity to go). I do remember collecting those stamps from all the paviliions, although I was more delighted with the rides.
