You can't see them in the water, but J&E are watching salmon jump up the stream.
Setting Sail
Goodbye Alaska! We got to drive onto a car elevator when we boarded the ferry. They lifted us to the second level and packed us in like sardines.

The loop trail at eof the road north of Ketchikan was gorgeous with rainforest and salmon streams.

Sailing past Capbell river
It's been over 24 hours since we lost all communications, but we are
now sailing south past Campbell River and my phone picked up 1 bar. We
saw whales breaching and tail-waving near Namu. Bella Bella was
quaint. Lots of beautiful misty mountains. Bellingham at 8am tomorrow!

Hot chocolate by totem

J is enjoying some Chinese cereal drink and a bit of adventurequest in our motel room. It's still cold and wet outside, the horns of the ships and sea planes taking off outside our window were our wake-up call this morning.

Hello from Ketchikan, Alaska
The 5-hour ferry ride fro Prince Rupert to Ketchikan was one long nap. Alaska is beautiful and rainy!
Hello from the Alaska Marine Highway
We crossed through US customs in Prince Rupert and are now on our way to Kethikan Alaska. Alaska time is 1 hour earlier than Pacific time, and we entered that time zone when we boarded the ferry. E2 is getting some Z's.
Snack time
A Canadian favorite, "Five Alive" (shown here on the French side, "Deli-Cinq") was our snack, with some Tim Horton Doughnuts (already consumed). Our trusty old water bottle from the Mojave Desert (after 5 weeks of travel) was used to top up and wash up.
Bear-proof garbages
Most garbage bins in the parks and rest stops in northern BC look like this. You have to reach in and lift a lever to open it. Bears cannot penetrate the bin.
Remember these?
J&E spent much of the afternoon on the oldskool playground equipment at a park in Terrace. The merry-go-round was their favorite, and E was quickly sporting a few bandaids on her knees.

Picnic in Smithets, BC
E is a bit grumpy about the chicken salad sandwiches. Everyone else thinks they are great! Thank you Aunt Betty and Hannah for your hospitality in Quick, and your leftover chicken.

It finally happened - our first flat at about mile 9700. The nice fellas at OK Tire in dowtown Smithers are setting us up with some new rear tires.

Quadding in Fort St. John
Mare & Shayne took the kids quadding today. Elizabeth went too, and got the quad stuck in the mud. Doh!

Arrived in Fort St. John around 11pm. Shayne and Marilyn had beds ready and waiting for us.

Stopped for dinner enroute from Edmonton to Fort St. John, hoping from McWiFi - the cashier's blank stare and "what's that?" was not encouraging. Fortunately, a nearby hotel had an open network.
