Love Apple Farm's tomato sale is now open!
We stopped by Cynthia's tomato seedling sale on our way home from the Santa Cruz county 4-H presentations. The new location is in uptown Scotts Valley at 46 El Pueblo rd, near the Knox Box (raised garden beds) showroom.

After school fun at the beach!
We learned a lot at the beach today! PE: running and jumping over the seaweed, log, and streams Social studies: talked about how the earthquake caused a tsunami in Japan which crossed the whole ocean and re-shaped our beach with 5-feet drifts of new sand Biology: we found a dead seal on the beach and talked about all the creatures that would benefit from it's decomposing body Engineering: Where there us water, DAMS MUST BE BUILT! Math: "the parking sign said 20 minutes. We've been here for about 15 minutes....." Reading: at least 2 memorials for lost surfers... Beach safety rules... Above all - we had fun!

Working from home on kids' pc. Net Nanny won't allow access to Omniture Sitecatalyst. Doh!
Wouldn't want to expose the kids to data analytics at their tender age. Sent from my iPhone
E's birthday invite in June
I opened up my notebook this morning to take notes at a meeting and I found a draft of a birthday invitation E made for her birthday on June 5. It's a Sunday. Please RSVP by May 1. Don't forget to sign! ;)

Colonial costume - almost done.
Meet Zachariah Smith! A blacksmith from the Delaware colony. He is going to tell his class tomorrow about life on the colonies.
Calla Lilies from Lisette
We came home from our emergency costume outing and Lisette was walking up the driveway with an armful of calla lilies. She reminded me of a famous painting... Thank you Lisette! They look lovely!

"Kids, go outside and play" Voila - leaf chair!
The farm girls did a makeover on one of our patio chairs yesterday by weaving willow branches in. Trixie and Roberta (goats) gave two thumbs up.

E's bracelet hairband
E used 2 clips and a little copper bracelet to do her hair one day this week. A perfectly acceptable way to keep her growing bangs out of her eyes!

Last batch of photos from last weekend's quilt show
The kids are studying the farm quilt and getting ideas for their own farm quilts. The next generation of quilters has begun! J liked the space quilt, E liked the yarn spiral quilts. And little I liked the sock monkey quilt. And I (me) liked the bright and colorful log cabin. So many quilt ideas!

Some more of our favorite quilts
Below are some more of our favorite quilts from the Santa Clara quilt show. The quilt we stood in front of for the longest time is the sign quilt. "Tank Crossing" really cracked J up. We also liked the quilt made from ties.

New phone background
I posted a photo of a flower floating in our pool and many of you have commented how pretty it is. I didn't explain how or why I took it... J: [while picking flower] "Mom, I'm picking this flower so I can float it in the pool. Then you can take a picture of it and use it as the background on your phone." Me: "ok. My phone's camera is ready." J: [sprinkling water droplets on flower, making small ripples with other hand] "Ok the flower is ready." We both examine the photo. J nods approval. Exactly how he pictured it in his mind. So, that's why I have a flower floating in a pool as my phone's background. (screenshot below) :)

The kids judge quilts!
I took J&E&I to the Santa Clara Quilt show today. They had a lot of fun playing "I spy" - a scavenger hunt where they looked for a list of items in the quilts. When they finished they got a free friendship bracelet. We all got great ideas and enjoyed the beautiful display of quilts. As they were crossing items off their lists, some people asked, "Are you the judges?" hehe

They are kept in the basement of the classroom. A cardboard box pen with shavings inside. Boards across the top support heat lamps. Instant chick villa!
